Great Marlborough Productions Ltd in partnership with Cartoon Network London is producing the show from our studio in central London. We are working with a team of 50+ artists in-house in various departments.

In preparation for Season 6 of the series that will be in production in 2017 we will be recruiting for artists of all levels for various departments.

  • Storyboard Artists (start date:asap): mid to senior, to work in-house or remotely
  • Design (Start Sate: Feb 2017): character designers (mid to senior), character assistant (junior role)
  • Layout Artists (Start Sate: Feb 2017): knowledge of Maya (Mental Ray), After FX and photoshop essential, all levels of experience considered
  •  2D Key Animators (Start Sate: Spring 2017): knowledge of Flash and hand-drawn animation essential, all levels of experience considered
  • 3D Animators (Start Sate: Spring 2017): knowledge of Maya and experience of character animation are both essential, all levels of experience considered
  • BG artists (Start Sate: Spring 2017): knowledge of Maya (Mental Ray), After FX and photoshop essential, all levels of experience considered

Series Production Manager (Maternity Cover)

It currently has 165 million viewers worldwide and has won one Grammy and six BAFTAS among other recognitions.

The Role

The Series Production Manager mostly looks after the pre-production phases of the show, working closely with the writing, storyboard, edit and sound departments. It is a senior role within the running of the show and previous experience at a similar level on an animation series is essential. This role reports directly to the executive producers and line producer for the show.

Note that this is a maternity cover to start asap.

 Main responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining global pre-production schedule from writing through to locked animatics.
  • Contracting and booking all writers.
  • Managing budget and schedule for all writing on series.
  • Contracting and booking all voice actors & recording studios in UK and US.
  • Managing budget and schedule for weekly voice recordings.
  • Scheduling storyboard production for team of 6 artists.
  • Overseeing edit schedule for animatic production and storyboard revisions.
  • Contracting all song Composers for series.
  • Scheduling live action shoots, including hiring equipment and planning travel, as necessary.
  • Recruitment of crew for writing, voices, storyboard and edit.
  • Sending materials to Compliance and tracking Compliance notes through scripting, storyboarding and animatic stages.
  • Carrying out Legal clearance requests on scripts, storyboards and animatics and ensuring notes are implemented.
  • Compiling weekly schedule for studio across all departments and organising meeting rooms.
  • Overseeing Directors’ schedule for travel and external meetings.
  • Liaising with various departments at Turner regarding production queries as necessary.
  • Working with Executive Producer on range of projects in various stages of Development, including sourcing new talent/ideas, scheduling pitches and giving feedback.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 year experience on an animation series in a similar role
  • Experience in 2D and 3D animation pipelines
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written
  • To be very organised, have attention to details, be pro-active and able to problem solve
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office package
  • Knowledge of Shotgun would be a plus

Storyboard Artists

Great Marlborough Productions Ltd in partnership with Cartoon Network London are looking for STORYBOARD ARTISTS.

The Storyboard Artist will work from an approved script to deliver an 11min episode board. Working in Toon Boom Storyboard Pro, they will first produce a rough board with 3 subsequent revisions before final delivery. The Storyboard Artist will take direction from the Storyboard Supervisor and Series Directors. The schedule for each episode includes 3 full pitches.

Requirements:

  • Solid understanding of staging and composition for a show that’s primarily comedy but also has action elements.
  • Needs strong draftsmanship skills in order to keep characters consistently on-model.
  • Ensure quality and style of show is maintained.
  • Ability to work to schedule in a fast-paced series production.
  • Work well in a collaborative environment and be open to feedback, input and suggestions.
  • Visually interpreting ideas and providing input and solutions to creative aspects of the story.

The Role

The layout department is tasked to translate hand-drawn storyboards into cinematographic and realistic sequences. This is a very crucial stage in our pipeline and it requires to understand frame composition.

Working as a team the artists will compose and frame every shot, create new backgrounds from photos, animate cameras for action sequences, match the 2d and 3d assets.

Experience Profile:  We are currently recruiting for junior, mid & senior positions 

Requirements:
– Ready to work in a fast-paced series workflow.
– Good eye for composition and storytelling.
– Very confident with perspective drawing.
– Comfortable with heavy photo manipulation.
– Comfortable with camera animation.
– Organised, rigorous, good attention to details.

Knowledge:
Required: After Effects, Photoshop and Maya.
Knowledge of additional software will be considered.

As part of an in house team of 12, you will be taking each episode through its key frame animation stage, in addition to rough assisting full animation on more complex shots. This is in preparation for the out of house in-betweening.

The style of the show requires strong 2-D drawn animation skills, the ability to stay on model, and deliver well executed animation to tight production deadlines.

You will need a thorough working knowledge of Flash & Adobe Photoshop. Previous series experience is preferable, but not essential.

The Role

 Working closely with the directors, voice director and senior editor, the assistant editor will help putting together 40 episodes per season in a fast paced environment. The role requires a genuine interest in working on an animation series, which is a specialist area.

This is a support role to the editors and the assistant will be expected to perform a variety of tasks, working with both sound and picture.

Above all the assistant editor needs to be highly organised and pay attention to details. The role requires to work across a number of episodes at different stages of production, where tracking and communicating changes is essential.

The role is also attached to preparing files and edits for the delivery of episodes, liaising with the compositing departments and post-houses.

The Assistant Editor should be accustomed to working within tight production schedules and be able to highlight any areas of concern in good time to the editors and the production team.

Reporting to: Senior editor, series production manager, producers

Working alongside: senior editor, voice director, directors, storyboard and compositing departments

Main responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Animatic assembly for all departments
  • Numbering edits
  • Shotgun updates
  • Updating scripts
  • Maintaining the reuse library
  • You may also be asked to help with recording scratch voices

Requirements:

  • Essential knowledge of Final Cut Pro and Premiere
  • Genuine interest in working on an animation series
  • Being organised and attention to details
  • Good communication skills
  • Some knowledge of Shotgun a plus

Great Marlborough Productions Ltd in partnership with Cartoon Network London is producing the show from our studio in central London. We are working with a team of 50+ artists in-house in various departments.

 

Currently we are looking for the following as additional help to our current team:

  • BG artists: background is the department where our mix-media technique really comes together and we need artists who feel comfortable with both 2D and 3D. Working knowledge of Maya (Mental Ray), After Effects, Photoshop is essential in that role.
  • Layout artist, holiday cover only: we are looking for a freelance artists who could come for a few weeks to do holiday cover. You will need to have a good eye for details and frame composition. Working knowledge of Maya (Mental Ray), After Effects, Photoshop is essential in that role.
  • Compositor, 4 to 5 weeks contract: we are looking for a freelance artist who could come and help with our Key Compositing team. You must have some experience of mixed media project as your role will be to integrate 2D, 3D and live action elements together. Working knowledge of After Effects is essential in that role.
  • 2D Key animation artist, holiday cover only: we are looking for a freelance artists who could come for a few weeks to do holiday cover. You will need to be able to animate using puppets in flash, have a good eye for detail and performance. An interest in 2D fx animation would be a plus.

Starting from the layout artwork, the background department are responsible for the final look & lighting of each background plate. This involves the use of Maya (Mental Ray) and After Effects for moving backgrounds, as well as designing graphic elements to integrate into the backgrounds.

  • Good eye for photo-realism and confident with heavy photo manipulation
  • Comfortable with graphic design
  • Good generalist knowledge of the 3D pipeline stages (animation, modeling, texturing, lighting, rendering, compositing).
  • Excellent knowledge of lighting and rending with Mental Ray
  • Understanding of linear workflow.
  • Experience projecting matte painting and photographic elements onto 3D geometry in Maya.
  • Modeling, UVing and texturing skills.
  • Good understanding of colour theory, shot composition and camera focal lengths.
  • Ability to trouble shoot technical problems with 3D scenes and optimise renders.

Knowledge: 
Required: Maya (Mental Ray), After Effects.

It is not essential to know Photoshop/matte painting for the 3D position but it is preferred.

Knowledge of additional software will be considered.
